If a person is scheduled for PRLT before coming to Bad Berka, then the most common schedule is as follows. Note that the exact order and day plan may vary depending upon the patient's type of treatment plan or the work schedule of the ward and/or other departments.

• Sunday Afternoon -- Check in to the Zentralklinik.  Usually a patient must make arrangements to pay for treatment with finance before they check in to the Klinik. -New- Patients will recive a ID wristband at the reception area.
After check in you will go to the Pharmacy office located next door to the Finance offices. Bring with you a complete listing of all medications that you are using and will need to take while at the Klinik. Nurses will check for conflicts with these amedications.

Your next stop will be on D3, the Nuclear Medicine Ward to get a room assignment, blood draw for routine tests, a MRSA, test and others.  Usually the patient will meet with a doctor who is on the Ward to discuss your medical history and your treatment at the Klinik. In addition, you will receive a small electronic FOB that is your key for entry to the WARD. Do Not Lose your key. 

• Monday morning – Usually you will begin tests and scans. Typically the renal testing is first, followed by the PSMA-Gallium-68 PET/CT scan. If other tests are needed such as an Ultra Sound or echocardiogram, then these may be done throughout the day or on Tuesday. Depending on the schedules of other departments you may get all testing done before you have your scan. 

• Monday Afternoon. Once the results of the tests and PSMA-Gallium-68 scan are reviewed by Dr. Baum and his staff, Dr. Baum meets with the patient (and a patient caregiver or companion, if present).  It is Dr. Baum's practice to explain the next steps for the PRLT. Depending upon the outcome of the scan and tests, this consultation can last from 30-45 minutes. Typically Dr. Baum discusses the findings from the various tests and scans, most especially the 68-Ga-PSMA PET/CT scan, but also the other tests that have a bearing on receiving the PRLT.  We highly recommend that the patient record all such consultations since a lot of information is given in a short period of time. This would allow the patient to review what was said at a later time. 

• Tuesday – The isotope to be used is Lutetium-177 so a patient is likely to receive PRLT on Tuesday afternoon. Once the treatment is given, the patient must remain in their own room for 24 hours except when getting a scan on the Ward. 

• Wednesday – If the patient receives PRLT on Tuesday, then they will remain in the room until the expiration of the 24-hour time period. After 24 hours, the patient can go into the Nuclear Medicine Ward and is free to move about. Patients cannot have visitors in the ward, but friends or companions can bring things to the Ward and a nurse will get items to the patient. Typically the day of the treatment, the patient will get a scan that shows where uptake is going. The day after treatment the patient will do one or more body scans during the day to determine how well the radioactive material is getting to the tumors over time.

• Thursday – If treatment was given on Tuesday, then once 48 hours is over the patient is free to walk outside the Ward and free to see visitors outside the Ward. Typically a patient is not discharged on this day. 

• Friday – If treatment was given on Tuesday, then a patient is usually discharged on Friday or late on Thursday. This means that the patient will see Dr. Baum for a review of their treatment and next steps. Just remember that you are not done at the Klinik until you have cleared through Finance. Finance typically closes around 4 or 4:30.  In some cases, patients are asked to undergo a final 18-F FDG PET scan. This is usually done on Friday morning.

Friday afternoon or early evening is when the patient usually sees Dr. Baum. Sometimes patients are fatigued or feel nauseous after the PRLT and this condition may persist for several days. Those patients may not be discharged until Saturday. Be aware schedules may change depending on Dr. Baum's schedule or that of other Departments involved.
